New update for Canvas desktop app

Just in case you haven’t used your Canvas desktop app of late, there has been another update and you can now download any of the images that you have in the Canvas library (web version) which means you have more power to do stuff.  It would also appear that they have added more shortcuts for those of us who prefer to use a keyboard shortcut rather than clicking on the mouse and choosing an option.  Great stuff

Swirls and Flourishes – update

Spurred on by a recent craft show I have been playing with Illustrator and came up with a flourish that I would like to share with you.

CaptureRed one is slightly different to the blue one & I have a problem with Canvas at the moment and I can’t rotate it but when it is rotated you will see it is the self same flourish just with a more oval shaped dot.

I drew the flourish in Illustrator, created a couple of different outlines to them and then imported it into Canvas but that didn’t import it as I had drawn it.  I therefore printed off the flourish and scanned it into my machine and it worked perfectly.  Sent it through the cloud to Canvas and it showed it correctly.   I have drawn the flourish relatively large as I need it to be substantial enough when reduced to cut without problems.  As of yet I have only cut them at around 4 inches  The flourish in blue actually needs a little tweaking by me to make it perfect but I am pretty happy thus far  – will post the .svg files when I have had a chance to tweak them.

Might even have a got at making some different ones – the housework might just have to take a back seat!

I have now had a chance to download a link to the .svg file for the flourishes

and a photo of the files cut – the smallest is really quite small and it cut perfectly so possibly could go smaller although not sure you would actually need to unless you were making a tiny card.

Watering Can

I was inspired to do this last week when I needed a card for a man.  I always find men so much more difficult to make cards for so was very happy with the result.  It could of course equally be made for a lady who has green fingers.

The bird is from the artwork on the sNc just sized down and the gnomes were some card so just cut them out after scanning in the cardstock.

Latest Update for ScanNcut 1.30

Hi everyone

Just in case you were unaware there is a new update for our machines via the following link :

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=gb&lang=en&prod=hf_cm600dxeuk

If you click on the link it will give you the option of choosing your operating system, then ask you to agree the terms and allow you to download the new update – there are instructions on how to do it there as well.

You just need to ensure you use a USB stick that is completely empty.

I am going to update my machine in the morning so as yet am not sure what we can look forward to but it can only be good.

If you have any trouble with the update feel free to email me and I will talk you through it.

Have a nice weekend and I promise a new cutting file by the end of the weekend – it is drawn but need to cut it out to see all is as it should be – the good news is that it can be used for Men or Ladies …. watch this space x

Poinsettia Flower & Leaf

Poinsettia   Morning Ladies & Gentlemen, life has been somewhat hectic so much so that I have only just started to think about Christmas!

No doubt you are all much more organised than me but, if you are not, and are looking for a poinsettia then look no further.  I drew this in Illustrator, cut it out in Red and the leaves in Green, tipped the points of the flower with a gold pen and then layered them up in twos or threes, actually think two layers worked better.  Added some gold pearl drops to make the centre, then added some leaves on to the back to complete the flower et voilà!

Can be used flat on cards, as decorations, or where ever.  I hope you enjoy them.  As usual please respect my terms of use.

Have a nice weekend, the .fcm file is below x

Addendum, to the addendum on Dashed Lines!

I was idly looking at a certain craft programme last night and the presenter had just discovered the dashed line function!

The presenter was demonstrating how to do faux stitching and made it exceedingly complicated when in actual fact it is dead easy!

They recommended first drawing the dashed line and the shape and then cutting the shape out which then leaves you with an uneven drawn line round the cut line which is so unattractive

All you need to do when creating your shape and dashed line within Canvas is to ensure that the shape you want to cut has the ‘cut line’ highlighted when you go into properties and that the shape you want to draw has the ‘draw line’ highlighted.  Normally when you create something it automatically defaults to cut and draw .

If you follow the above procedure all you need to do is call up your shape and place it wherever you want on your imaginary mat.  Then when you go to the cut & draw function press the draw function and it will draw your dashed lines (or whatever) and then simply change the blade and press cut and it will cut the item out.

Nor faffing around having to go back into your project and deleting the draw items before cutting – simples!!  (can’t do the noise, sorry!)

Hope this is as clear as mud, if not drop me a line and I will talk you through it.

Have started to muck out my house so this afternoon am going to make up the tiny roses that I cut out last night – will put the file on here later when I have done them so you can see what they look like.  My sNc has been behaving impeccably of late so I have fallen in love with it all over again!

Have a nice weekend x

Christmas Card Frame

Hello, You might like the card frame I made this morning.

I thought it could be used three-fold firstly you can put an embossed insert behind for a fairly simple card, secondly you could recycle your old Christmas cards and put them behind as a scene and thirdly if you have a nice photo of the family, children, pets etc you could place that behind.

I initially made it to recycle my old cards but it could be used in a multitude of ways – I am showing it with a glittery background.

I have also given you the holly leaf as a separate cut-out for layering up should you wish to.

I drew the whole file so it is free to you to use with no restrictions other than respecting my wishes not to sell the file.

I have made it as an A6 card and it can be placed on an A4 card in order to get two cards out of one sheet.

It cuts very nicely
